Physical Therapy is an excellent way for an individual to get a personalized and hands-on approach to managing his/her pain. Physical Therapy aims to help restore movement and function when a patient is affected by injury, illness, or disability.
Although anyone can benefit from Physical Therapy throughout their life, the people who benefit the most are those with back pain, injuries, or those managing chronic medical conditions. Some of the conditions that we have dealt with include back pain, arthritis, heart disease, fractures, head injuries, and cerebral palsy.
Our treatment plans look at the patient as a whole and give each individual a chance to participate in their rehab. We increase flexibility and range of motion by encouraging patients to use their muscles through exercise. This will improve overall strength, endurance, balance, and coordination.
How Physical Therapy Works
You will meet with our on-staff Nurse Practioner (NP) who will after examination and determining your specific needs, prescribe Physical Therapy. Our staff will then perform a comprehensive analysis of your current condition.
Our NP will test your range of motion, tissue limitations, posture, and muscular imbalances. Our chiropractors can then use this information to treat the spine and order more tests like X-rays or MRIs. After the information is recorded, we will work with you to create a treatment plan catered specifically to your needs.
This treatment plan will give the patient a hands-on approach to the therapy during each session. Each session will last approximately one hour and focus on exercises that heal the body and improve overall health and function. It is best to wear comfortable clothing that does not restrict movement to each session so that exercises can be completed without any issues.
Some Types of Rehabilitation We Offer
Electrical Muscle Stimulation
Electrical Muscle Stimulation is done by sending a small electrical current to the troublesome soft tissue area or muscle spasm. The current reduces swelling and releases trigger points that could have caused the muscle to tighten in the first place. This therapy helps the body release natural pain relievers called endorphins.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound therapy, which is used in our office to treat joint pain, muscle spasms, and soft tissues, is not the same ultrasound that most people are familiar with. It uses small sound waves that vibrate and massage soft tissues and muscles. The waves help the body heal and decrease the formation of scar tissue.
